“Lipo shots” are everywhere. A 2026 industry report found that about 31% of US IV clinics sell weight loss or “lipo” add-ons (IVTherapyCompare). The most common is the MIC B12 injection.
The name makes it sound like it melts fat. It doesn’t. Here’s a plain-English look at what’s in a MIC B12 injection, what it can and can’t do, and how it fits a real weight plan.

Table of Contents
What Does MIC Stand For?
MIC stands for three ingredients:
- M = Methionine. An amino acid your body uses to make proteins and other compounds.
- I = Inositol. A sugar-like compound involved in cell signaling. Sometimes grouped with B vitamins.
- C = Choline. A nutrient the liver uses to process fats.
Add vitamin B12, and you get a MIC B12 injection. Some versions include other B vitamins.
Why Is It Called a Lipo Shot?
“Lipo” means fat. The name comes from the idea that these nutrients help the body process fat. That’s true in a basic biology sense: choline, for example, helps the liver move fat. But that doesn’t mean a lipo shot burns body fat or causes weight loss on its own.
There’s no strong evidence that MIC injections cause meaningful weight loss by themselves.
What the Lipo Shot Can and Can’t Do
It may:
- Support B12 levels, especially in people who are low
- Fit into a broader weight plan some patients like
- Be a quick visit, just a few minutes
It won’t:
- Melt fat or spot-reduce areas
- Replace a healthy diet and exercise
- Replace medical weight loss treatment
- Cause weight loss on its own
About B12
B12 matters for nerves and red blood cells. People on metformin, people who eat little or no animal food, older adults, and people after weight loss surgery may run low. People on GLP-1 medicines eating less may also want labs. See our post on GLP-1 vitamin labs.

Who Should Skip a MIC B12 Injection
Talk with your clinician first if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have Leber’s disease (a rare eye condition where B12 shots may not be advised)
- Have allergies to cobalt or cobalamin
- Take medicines that may interact
Side effects are usually mild: soreness at the injection site, or rarely, upset stomach or allergic reaction.
How It Fits a Weight Plan
At Majestic Aesthetics, the MIC B12 shot is an add-on, and we also offer a Metabolism Support Drip (MIC + B12). Both are listed on our IV drip menu. Neither is a weight loss treatment on its own.

A real weight plan includes:
- A health review and labs
- Nutrition changes you can stick with
- Movement, including strength training
- Sleep and stress care
- Medicine when appropriate, supervised by a clinician
Our medical weight loss program brings these together. Some patients add a MIC B12 injection along the way because they like it, not because it does the heavy lifting.
What about new weight loss drugs?
If you’re curious about the latest medicines, our post on new weight loss drugs in 2026 explains what’s approved and what isn’t.
What to Expect at a MIC B12 Injection Visit
- Health review. We check your conditions, medicines, and allergies.
- Labs if useful. B12 or other labs may help guide the decision.
- The shot. Usually a quick injection into a muscle, often the arm.
- After. Most people go right back to their day. Mild soreness can happen.
If your clinician thinks it isn’t a good fit, they’ll tell you, and suggest what may help instead.
Red Flags in Lipo Shot Marketing
- “Lose 10 pounds a week with lipo shots”
- “Melt belly fat”
- “No diet needed”
- Selling big packages before any health review
Honest providers explain what’s in the shot and what it can’t do.
